Recognising the formative impact of educators, the strategies developed by global initiative The Virtues Project™ have been found to be extremely effective in the class environment, from early learning centres through to secondary schools.
Professional learning programs for teachers offer practical tools tailored for use within the classroom and spaces of learning. These can transform the culture amongst students at your school or learning centre to one of understanding, empathy, connection and empowerment; a culture where students readily recognise existing strengths within themselves and within their classmates, and feel supported by staff and peers alike to develop further.
It doesn’t stop with elevating student culture however - a broader approach can be adopted whereby staff also utilise virtues-based strategies with each other, alongside the addition of parent-focused workshops to support the development of a character intelligence amongst students' families at home.
Book a Virtues Crew professional development program for your staff today and start building a culture of character intelligence at your school.
The Virtues Crew's Professional Learning workshops will unlock 5 key strategies that help education staff to:
An evaluation summary report can be provided at the conclusion of the program to capture immediate outcomes.
This program directly addresses several focus areas of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST).
Your class time is precious! We understand that school curriculums are jam-packed, with teachers frequently asked to fit more and more into ever crammed lesson plans. This program does not require squeezing in more to your lessons, but rather offers an approach to increase the effectiveness of your efforts in terms of class management, rapport building and problem solving.
Virtues Crew workshops offer strategies that will enhance. and supplement your existing methods in the classroom, and maximise the impact of your relational work as an educator. It is not a requirement that students spend time completing additional worksheets or curriculum as part of this program (though you may feel inspired to initiate new routines or activities!).
Programs offer a combination of theory-based and experiential learning. The interactive discussions and activities included in the program are core to the experience and effectiveness.
Participants develop an understanding of the key strategies of virtues-based methods, explore how these apply in their context with their peers, and finally practice using them to ensure the experience is practical beyond the workshop's completion.
Participants will walk away feeling inspired - not only by the content, but by each other.
The main program totals approximately 12 hours of workshops - including breaks as applicable - flexibly divided into multiple sessions to suit your staff's professional learning schedule, e.g. 2 full days (consecutive or separate), or shorter weekly sessions.
Given the interactive nature of sessions, this program is best suited to groups of between up to 25 participants at a time (negotiable). Larger schools may consider running multiple programs, or selecting a core group of champions to lead others (e.g. School Leadership, Year Level Coordinators, etc.)
A free refresher session is also available to staff who participated in the main program (within 2 years of completion).
Where it is not possible for all staff to complete the training program, an abridged introductory presentation can be provided for the larger staff cohort. This service is delivered in conjunction with some staff undertaking the main program. Its purpose is to assist staff to understand the key principles that the main program participants will be championing within the school.
Refresher sessions (for staff who have previously completed the main program) similarly provide a summary of the key virtues-based strategies and their practices.
The abridged introduction & refresher sessions run for approximately 60-90 mins each.
Looking to engage parents in your school?
Understanding that students learn best when lessons are reinforced at home, programs for parents are also available. These follow a similar format to the staff program, but tailored to draw on examples within the home context.
Schools wishing to offer this program to parents may choose to fund the program free of charge to parents, or alternatively invite parents to participate through self-funded options.
It is a fantastic way to engage parents in your school community and align parent & teacher approaches to communicating with children.
